A lifelong resident of Neptune City, Corlies Chong is proud to call this vibrant and diverse community his home. As a second-generation Chinese American, his roots run deep here. His family owned and operated Chong’s, a beloved Chinese American restaurant that served the surrounding communities for over 30 years.
Corlies attended Roosevelt and Wilson Elementary Schools and graduated from Neptune High School. It was during this time that he met his wife, Kathy. They’ve been married for over 40 years and together raised two wonderful sons, Ean and Cameron, both of whom are proud alumni of Woodrow Wilson School and the Academy of Allied Health and Science.
Driven by a passion for food, Corlies pursued a career as a chef, earning a degree from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. However, recognizing the demanding nature of the hospitality industry and its impact on family life, he made the decision to pivot his career. Corlies earned a Master’s in Public Administration and currently works for a national healthcare organization, providing subject matter expertise and support to healthcare and related industries across the country.
Public service has always been important to Corlies. He’s had the honor of serving on the Board of Education and the Land Use Board, and he currently serves as a Council Member, continuing his commitment to giving back to the community that shaped him.
Councilmember Chong is Chair of the Community Relations Committee, which organizes Community Events and oversees the Community Center and Library. Councilmember Chong is committed to bringing the Neptune City Community together through events such as the Memorial Day Parade, and Annual Food Truck Festival.
“As a lifelong resident and second-generation Chinese American, I grew up here. I went to school here. I raised my family here. I’ve walked the same streets, sent my children to the same schools, and I know the challenges and opportunities our community faces. Rooted in Neptune City. Committed to its Future.”
