Transparency and Facts, Re: Neptune City January 1st Resolution 2019-17

For Immediate Release: NEW COUNCIL MAJORITY CALLS ON MAYOR AND CLERK TO STOP MISLEADING RESIDENTS AND STOP PLAYING POLITICS

Town’s CFO as well as various professionals and the Department of Community Affairs all say Government can function without issue.

“The voters spoke clearly and loudly on November 7th and as the new majority, we are providing accountability for taxpayers. Unfortunately, the current Mayor and Municipal Clerk have been misleading the residents of this town in an attempt to cause unnecessary chaos. On January 1st, at the Reorganization Meeting, there was a resolution that got tabled (thrown out) by the new Democratic Council Majority because it contained errors, wasn’t necessary, was questionable, and potentially dangerous to taxpayers.

Unfortunately, the Borough Clerk, by order of the Mayor (who is also her husband), reacted by creating havoc throughout town by telling employees they weren’t going to get paid. This was done either due to possible ignorance or ill intent. This is not true and we have spoken to department heads on this topic.

The Temporary Budget, laid out in Resolutions 2019-18 and 2019-19, was passed unanimously by Council and contained all that was needed to ensure payroll and the continuous flow of business as usual within the Borough. This has been confirmed by numerous professionals, attorneys and the DCA (NJ Department of Consumer Affairs.) The Borough’s Chief Financial Officer even said the resolution in question, 2019-17, is not needed.

The Borough Clerk/Payroll Clerk is required by state law to meet payroll and is authorized by the details contained within the Temporary Budget and instructed by the governing body to meet payroll and continue with business as usual.

The Borough Clerk was also instructed by the governing body to cancel a special meeting set for the 7th. There will be no special meeting regarding the tossed resolution because there is no need for the resolution or a special meeting. A quorum will not be meeting.

We urge the Mayor and Borough Clerk to listen to the town’s CFO and various professionals and to stop playing politics in Neptune City.”
